Towage of the trailer

The factory complete set of the car the traction coupling device provides also all necessary for operation of the trailer according to technical and standard requirements.

For electric connection of the car and the trailer the car is completed with the 13-contact plug socket. In the presence on the trailer of a 7-contact plug fork it is possible to use the corresponding cable which is available at the Audi enterprises the adapter.

Additional installation of the traction coupling device has to conform to requirements of the manufacturer of this device.

Maintenance instructions

Remember the admissible maximum mass of the towed freight, see Specifications.

The mass of the towed freight

Do not exceed the admissible maximum mass of the towed freight at all.

If the most admissible mass of the trailer is not used completely, it is possible to overcome rises with the bigger size of a bias.

Standard values of mass of the towed freight are valid only at the height up to 1000 m above sea level. With increase in height the sparseness of air raises and respectively the engine capacity and, as a result, ability to overcoming of rises decreases. Therefore the standard mass of the road train decreases by 10% for each 1000 m of rise. The mass of the road train is equal to the sum of mass (loaded) car and (loaded) trailer.

The data on basic loading specified in a name plate of the trailer are its control sizes. Data which can be lower than these sizes, can be found in registration documents of the car or in Specifications.

Placement of freight

Distribute freight of the trailer so that the heaviest subjects settled down whenever possible closer to its bridge. Besides, fix freight not to allow its shift at the movement.

Use the permissible basic load transferred to a spherical head through dyshlo the trailer whenever possible completely, but do not exceed.

Pressure in tires

Install pressure in car tires corresponding to its full load see the plate of pressure of air in tires on a door rack. If necessary modify also pressure of air of tires of the trailer according to recommendations of his manufacturer.

External mirrors

If serial rear-view mirrors do not provide a sufficient rearview, it is necessary to establish additional external mirrors. Both external mirrors have to fasten on the put arms. So adjust the provision of mirrors that the sufficient rearview was provided.

Headlights

Prior to the movement with the trailer check and if necessary modify installation of headlights by means of the device of regulation of a tilt angle of headlights, see Lighting and providing the review.

Removable spherical head

The removable spherical head of the traction coupling device of a factory complete set is together with the installation guide in a niche of a spare wheel of a luggage carrier.

To the instruction but driving

The movement with the trailer demands extra care.

  • Do not tow the loaded trailer not loaded car.
  • Do not move with the maximum speed, especially at the movement under a bias.
  • In due time brake.
  • At high external temperature watch indication of temperature of cooling liquid.

Distribution of loading

At the empty car and the loaded trailer distribution of loading is extremely adverse. In need of the movement in this option the movement has to be especially slow.

Speed

With increase in speed dynamic properties of the road train worsen. Therefore under adverse road, weather and aerodynamic conditions do not use the maximum speed allowed by traffic regulations. It especially concerns the movement under a bias.

At once reduce speed at the slightest signs of wagging of the trailer. Do not try "to level" the road train increase in speed at all.

Brake in due time! At towage of the trailer with inertial brake system brake in the beginning softly, and then smoothly. It will help to avoid pushes the blocked trailer wheels. For use of possibility of braking by the engine, in due time switch to a low gear.

The stabilizing adaptations reduce fluctuations of the trailer of rather cross axis and its wagging. It is recommended to apply them with a considerable mass of the trailer.

Overheat

Watch indication of temperature of cooling liquid at very high external temperature and the movement on long rise on a low gear and with high frequency rotations of a shaft of the engine, see Governing bodies and devices. When calling an arrow on the right part of a scale at once reduce speed. At a blinking in a control panel of an alarm lamp stop and cool the engine, having allowed it to work as some minutes idling.

Removable traction coupling device

Introduction

Installation and dismantle of the traction coupling device demands accuracy.

The removable spherical head of the traction coupling device is under a luggage carrier flooring.

For installation and dismantle of a spherical head enough normal muscular efforts of hands.

Use of hinged components / autoaccessories on the traction coupling device

Remember that when using the improper hinged components mounted on the traction coupling device (for example, an arm for the bicycle), perhaps hidden damage of a spherical head that in an extreme case can lead to destruction of the traction coupling device during towage of the trailer.

Before each trip check correctness of fixing of a spherical head.

Never deblock a spherical head at the attached trailer.

At the movement without trailer remove a spherical head and check correctness of closing by a cover of a fixing nest.

When cleaning the car the steam-ejecting pump remove previously spherical head and check correctness of closing of a fixing nest a cover.

  1. Under a bumper completely open a cover of a fixing nest. The cover is automatically fixed in this situation.
  1. Check probability of pollution of a fixing nest and if necessary clean it.

The spherical head has to be pure and without damages

  1. Check probability of pollution and damage of a clamp (A), the uncoupling finger (B), the case of a spherical head in a place of contact with a fixing pipe, and also a flywheel.


The spherical head has to be mounted with a preliminary tightness

The preliminary tightness is provided with performance of the following conditions:

  • The red tag of a flywheel is in a zone of a black tag of the case of a spherical head.
  • The clamp (B) is drowned in an opening of the case of a spherical head.
  • The handle that is well visible visually, is at a certain distance from the case of a spherical head so between the handle and the case of a spherical head there is a gap (C).

The spherical head can be established only with a preliminary tightness.

  1. Insert into the flywheel lock a key (1) and turn it in the direction of a red tag.
  1. Pull the handle in the direction of an arrow (And) and turn it then in the extended situation in the direction of an arrow (B) until fixing of a clamp (2) and a visible vydviganiye of the uncoupling finger (3).

  1. Establish a spherical head with a tightness in a fixing nest and wring out up in the direction specified by an arrow. Process of fixing is carried out automatically. Thus click has to be distinctly audible.
  1. Lock a spherical head turn of a key in the direction of a green tag.
  1. Take a key.

Control of reliability of fastening

Removable traction coupling device: control of reliability of fastening

Correctness of fastening is provided with performance of the following conditions:

  • The green tag (And) a flywheel is in a zone of a black tag of the case of a spherical head.
  • The handle adjoins to the case of a spherical head. As a result between the handle and the case of a spherical head - the arrow - is absent a gap.
  • The spherical head is locked and the key is taken (the handle is not extended).
  • The spherical head reliably sits in a fixing nest (check, feats her hand).


Trailer socket

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. For connection of a cable of the trailer to the car take away down the direction of an arrow the plug receptacle of the car located under a bumper.

At non-performance of above-mentioned conditions repeat installation.

Dismantle of a spherical head

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Insert a key into the lock (1) flywheel.
  1. Unlock a spherical head (turn a key to a red tag).
  1. Strong hold the case of a spherical head and pull the handle in the direction specified by an arrow (And).
  1. Turn the handle in the extended situation against the stop in the direction of an arrow (B).
  1. Release the handle. It is fixed independently with a tightness.
  1. Take a spherical head from a fixing nest (1) down. Thus the fixing nest is automatically closed by a cover 0.
  1. Lay a spherical head under a luggage carrier flooring.
  1. Take away the socket up.

Four points of fastening (A) of the traction coupling device are from the lower party of the car.

The minimum distance (B) between a bumper and a spherical head has to make 65 mm. The distance (C) between the back bridge and a spherical head has to make 1056 mm.
