Removal and installation of the fuel pump with the fuel reserve sensor

The fuel pump with the fuel reserve sensor. Petrol engine of all-wheel drive model

The fuel pump is together with the fuel reserve sensor in a fuel tank. All-wheel drive models owing to need of placement of the driveshaft have a fuel tank, two-piece. In this case in each chamber the sensor of a reserve of fuel is located. In the right chamber there is an electric fuel pump.

On an illustration the fuel pump of the petrol engine of all-wheel drive cars is shown above. The description belongs also to cars with the diesel engine of 1.9 l, and also to diesel engines of 2.5 l about 5/02 releases.

The sensor of a reserve of fuel consists of a float and a potentiometer. At decrease in level of fuel also the sensor float falls. The potentiometer connected with a float increases thus the electric resistance of the sensor. Thus tension on the dashboard goes down and the index of a reserve of fuel moves in the empty direction. At cars with a fuel tank, two-piece, the processor of a control panel calculates the general reserve of fuel on the basis of signals of two sensors then gives out a signal on the index of a reserve of fuel.

At cars with the petrol engine with direct injection the fuel pressure regulator is built in the block of supply of fuel. The regulator of pressure cannot be disconnected from the fuel supply block.

At removal of the fuel pump a fuel quantity can flow out. Fuel couples are poisonous and flammable. Therefore watch good ventilation of a workplace. Use the gloves resistant in relation to fuel influence. Do not apply naked flame, danger of the fire! Keep in readiness the fire extinguisher.

Before removal of the fuel pump and sensor empty as much as possible fuel tank. The tank has to be filled no more, than on 2/3. The radial fan which electric motor is outside an air stream can be used to ventilation of a workplace and has productivity not less than 15 m 3/hour.

Models with the forward drive

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect a negative cable (-) of the battery.

Observe indications of the Section Replacement of the Battery.

  1. Sedan: Cast away, if necessary, forward the right back of a back seat. Remove facing of a luggage carrier, address to the Section Removal and installation of facings (Sedan).
  2. Versatile person: Remove the left back, and also the left facing of a luggage carrier and a bathtub for dirt, address to the Section Removal and installation of facings (Station wagon).
  1. Disconnect a cover for a locking flange (an arrow on an accompanying illustration).
  1. Release carefully a hand or a small screw-driver the 4-contact socket of the sensor of a reserve of fuel and the fuel pump (the shooter on an accompanying illustration) and disunite it.

The pipeline of supply of fuel is under pressure! Before opening of hose connection cover it with a thick rag. Then remove pressure by a careful detachment of a hose. Use goggles.

  1. Mark with a felt-tip pen fuel pipelines (1/2) before a detachment.
  1. Disconnect pipelines (1) giving and return (2), having squeezed for this purpose keys for fixing on connecting couplings. Close pipelines the corresponding traffic jams or an adhesive tape.
  2. Models with parking heating: In addition disconnect the pipeline of supply of fuel to parking heating.
  1. Turn off a cap nut the special tool 3217.

If the specified tool available is not present, turn off a cap nut in easy blows of a hammer through wooden whetstone.

Avoid emergence of a spark.

  1. Take out a few block of giving the fuel/sensor of a stock and a sealing ring from an opening of a fuel tank.
  2. Shift a locking flange at the block of supply of fuel inserted in a fuel tank it is a little aside.
  1. Release the ejector (1). For this purpose undertake a hand through a crack between a locking flange and an adjusting opening in a fuel tank.
  1. Take out the ejector (1) with even the attached hose of a driving stream (2) up.
  1. Disconnect a hose of a power stream from the ejector for what press a fixing key.
  1. Models with parking heating about 2/03 releases: Disconnect the soaking-up hose (1) for parking heating in a junction (2). For this purpose press a fixing key.
  1. Take out the ejector.
  2. Take out the fuel supply block.
  3. Merge fuel from the block of supply of fuel in a tank or any other capacity.
  1. If necessary, remove the fuel reserve sensor. For this purpose disunite sockets (1) and (2). Raise a screw-driver about basic levels (3) and (4) and remove the sensor down (an arrow on an accompanying illustration).

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. If necessary, insert the stock sensor into the supply of fuel directing on the block and press up so that the sensor was fixed. Fix the socket. Check reliability of fastening.
  2. Put on a delivery hose connection of the ejector.
  3. Insert the block of supply of fuel into a tank.
  4. Fix the ejector on the fuel supply block. For this purpose undertake a hand through a crack between a locking flange and an adjusting opening of a fuel tank.

The ejector has to be fixed distinctly.

  1. Insert new consolidation of a locking flange into an opening of a fuel tank.
  1. Check position of the block of supply of fuel: The tag on a locking flange (2) has to coincide with a tag on a fuel tank (1). If necessary, carefully turn the giving block.
  2. Tighten a cap nut of a locking flange the special tool 3217 the moment 80nm. It is possible to tighten a nut in easy blows of a hammer through wooden whetstone. Avoid formation of sparks!
  3. Put on hoses of giving and return according to the put tags. Thus fix quick disconnect couplings. Shooters on a flange specify the direction of a stream of liquid.
  4. Join the 4-contact socket.
  5. Attach a negative cable (-) of the battery.

Observe indications of the Section Replacement of the Battery.

  1. Further installation is carried out in sequence, the return to removal.

Models with the full drive and front-wheel with the 6-cylinder diesel engine of release to 4/02

The key 3087 is necessary for an otvorachivaniye of a locking ring. Tightening moment 145nm.

The locking flange is allowed to be opened only at the fuel tank filled no more than on 1/4. Otherwise a large amount of fuel follows.

The fuel pump with the sensor of a stock 1 is installed in the right camera. In the left tank the sensor of a stock 2 is installed.

The all-wheel drive car, and also the front-wheel car with the 6-cylinder diesel engine of release to 4/02: The fuel pump is fixed by a bayanetny lock. For its removal it is necessary to turn to the left on a corner 15 ° the special tool. At installation it is necessary to turn respectively to the right. On a bayanetny lock are two notches and the shooter, specifying in the direction "is closed".
